The Senior Tax Work-Off Program gives qualifying seniors who are at least 60 years of age an opportunity to volunteer hours to a municipal department and in return, receive $500 abatement from their property taxes. The program is funded for 20 participants and saves the town thousands of dollars. It not only helps participating departments with their work-load but also gives seniors a sense of purpose and well-being in addition to the monetary abatement.
If a person is eligible for the program and is physically unable to put the hours in themselves, a volunteer can do the hours for the eligible person by signing up through the program.
